British Fencing, the national governing body for fencing in the UK, recently introduced GO/FENCE, which replaces the traditional metal weapon with a plastic weapon. GO/FENCE is cheaper, quicker, easier and safer to learn than metal fencing. It is also easier to teach, requiring fewer coaching qualifications. GO/FENCE is currently being targeted towards after school clubs and holiday/activity camps to increase exposure and form a pathway to metal fencing at local community fencing clubs.

GO/FENCE in the UK is very similar to metal foil, but uses a different target area and does not require any of the special protective clothing required by metal fencing. A plastic mask is all that is required and a foam chest protector if you are a little sensitive to being hit. It is so easy to do that after 5 minutes tuition you will be able to start your first fight.

GO/FENCE is easy, safe, great fun and therefore the best way of experiencing fencing for the first time.
